. Photographed at the recorded location in 2022, this detailed documentary image records the subject within its real surroundings and preserves a specific stage in the life of the location. The principal subject is Anchor in park on the Runcorn promenade, overlooking the Widnes-Runcorn bridge, and Manchester Ship Canal, Halton, Cheshire, England, UK. The image also relates to crop production, before-and-after reference, field crop, local history, grain harvest, place identity, grain quality, canal transport, inland transport history, everyday life, cereal crop, documentary photography, historic narrowboat, and agricultural landscape. In present-day coverage, the subject reaches into agricultural policy and weather extremes, not least because of the pressure on farmers from energy, fertiliser and machinery costs. Today's relevance is strengthened by funding, industrial heritage and the continuing question of the value of canals as both historic infrastructure and blue-green corridors. The archival value lies partly in recording building condition and alterations around the recorded location before redevelopment alters the character of the place. A second descriptive layer includes regional identity, heritage boating, working waterway, changing land use, archival record, contemporary social history, visual archive, and community identity. Details involving overlooking, Manchester, Halton, Runcorn, and Anchor make the image more specific than a generic view and strengthen its local or historical value. A later view of the recorded location may show a very different setting, increasing the value of this precise record of its earlier appearance and activity. A further contemporary connection is agricultural policy and the pressure on farmers from energy, fertiliser and machinery costs when considered against later change at the recorded location. The scene captures evidence of earlier appearance for future local research.
