Chinese property developer Evergrande Real Estate Group has made inroads into the dairy sector by acquiring New Zealand's Cowala Dairy, making it the first Chinese enterprise to have purchased a foreign dairy company, reports the Shanghai-based China Business News. The conglomerate has been diversifying its business to cover a wide range of areas, including drinking water, photovoltaic energy and the infant formula sectors. Evergrande was not involved in the dairy sector but the acquisition of a foreign dairy brand will allow it to gain experience and shorten the time needed for familiarizing itself with the industry, a source familiar with the deal said. After imbibing advanced technology from the New Zealand-based company, Evergrande will be able to build its own dairy production base and its own Chinese brand, the source added.
