The Queen Mother, 101, arrives at Guildhall in the City of London for a reception marking the reformation of 600 Squadron, Royal Auxillary Air Force, of which she is Honorary Air Commodore. * The squadron, which won the reputation during the 1939-45 war as being among the greatest night fighters, was disbanded in 1957. Shortly after the war, the Queen Mother became the squadron's Honorary Air Commodore and was given the crest of 600 Squadron, which was again pinned to her jacket. * 22/11/2001: The Queen Mother was flying by helicopter to Portsmouth for the re-commissioning of the aircraft carrier, HMS Ark Royal, which has undergone a 147-million refit. The 101-year-old Royal was renewing her long association with the warship which she launched on Tyneside in 1981 and commissioned four years later. * 31/12/2001: The Queen Mother is suffering from a persistent cold, Buckingham Palace said, but there was no cause for concern. The 101-year-old Royal had decided not to attend church with the Queen at Sandringham, the royal Norfolk estate. The Queen Mother was also absent from the traditional royal church service at Sandringham on Christmas Day. Earlier in December, she decided against attending outdoor celebrations at Kensington Palace for the 100th birthday of Princess Alice, dowager Duchess of Gloucester.
