Dundee Heritage Trust and tourist attractions are under threat due to lack of funding. The Dundee Heritage Trust, a charity which owns Dundee's leading tourist attractions and the City Council are selling off Historical and Listed Buildings to Big Businesses for their Development Projects. Instead of restoring these glorious Victorian and Edwardian buildings they are demolishing them to make way for modern day offices, luxury Hotels and Apartments. Dundee Heritage Trust receives no subsidies from national government and only a small subsidy from local government which equates to just 6% of the museums’ running costs. The Trust therefore has to raise the balance from its own activities. As such we rely on the trading revenue generated by visitors and fund raising initiatives including corporate and charitable trust support. DP&L Group; A 188-year-old Dundee shipping company is set for expansion after it was sold to a local businessman. DP&L Group was founded as the Dundee, Perth and London Shipping Company in 1826 to carry passengers and cargo. DP&L operated passenger steamer services to London until the outbreak of World War Two in 1939 and maintained cargo shipping routes, including links to St Petersburg and the Mediterranean until 1962. The group has been connected to the Chalmers family for 80 years and was fully bought over by them in 1993. The Custom House is a Greek Revival Ionic customs house, 3-storey ashlar-built Building. From the mid 18th century until 1803, Pierson Lodgings, latterly known as Old Custom House, originally dating from circa 1591, operated as the Customs House for Dundee. The new Customs House built for the Port Authority 1842-3 was the second largest in Scotland.
