Hong Kong film director Hark Tsui and his wife Nansun Shi (Shi Nan-Sun), Vice President of Media Asia Group, attend the premiere ceremony for the movie, Flying Swords of Dragon Gate, in Macau, China, 15 December 2011. Flying Swords of Dragon Gate, Chinas most expensive 3D movie ever made starring Jet Li, Zhou Xun and other cast members, opens across the country, as director Hark Tsui attempts to raise the bar for Chinese action movies. At $35 million, the Flying Swords budget is far lower than Hollywoods average 3D blockbuster, but it is costly for China, where production costs have been creeping higher in recent years. Flying Swords goes head to head with The Flowers of War, also opening Friday. The film, from director Zhang Yimou and starring Christian Bale, takes on the somber subject of Japans brutal occupation of Nanjing in 1937.
