The nose and parts of the head of a C919 jet plane, the nation's first domestically made single-aisle passenger aircraft, headed for Leshan city on 27 September and is expected to arrive in Shanghai for final assembly on 29 September by water transport. The Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) completed the assembly of a C919's nose and parts of the head in Chengdu on July 31, marking a milestone for the nation's aviation industry. The 6.6-meter-long nose, composed of some 3, 200 parts, came off the assembly line at the Aviation Industry Corporation of China Chengdu Aircraft Industrial Group. In addition to the nose and head, the main body and wings will be assembled at its branch plants in Nanchang and Xi'an and the first test drive for the plane will be sometime during the last two quarters of this year.
