Malachite, Democratic Republic of Congo, Africa Malachite from DRC is among the finest examples of this copper carbonate hydroxide mineral (Cu₂CO₃(OH)₂), known for its intense green color, botryoidal formations, fibrous structures, and concentric banding. Found in the oxidized zones of copper deposits, DRC malachite often occurs alongside azurite, chrysocolla, and native copper. The region, particularly the Katanga Copperbelt, produces some of the most vibrant and well-crystallized malachite specimens, used both as mineral specimens and lapidary material. With its striking patterns and silky luster, malachite from the DRC is highly sought after for its aesthetic appeal, geological significance, and importance as a copper ore.
