Dark skies over Cologne! It had been raining heavily when I took this shot so it's a trifle murky out there - exacerbated by the usual 'Zenith special effects' :) Quite an unusual view of one of the Flying Tigers fleet of Boeing 747 freighters - apparently parked up in a car park! Plenty of 1970s cars out there :) N803FT c/n 19897 Boeing 747-132SF was one of the early build 747s, being 82nd off the production line in 1970. The aircraft was delivered new to Delta Airlines as N9897 in October of that year, but Delta switched to TriStars in the mid 1970s and in 1977 the aircraft was converted to a freighter by Flying Tigers becoming N803FT. The aircraft was leased by El Al (Israel) in 1979, but returned to Flying Tigers until the airline was assimilated into Federal Express in 1989, and the aircraft was re-registered as N623FE. Just two years later the aircraft was sold again, to Polaris, and leased to Air Hong Kong as VR-HKN. In 1996, it returned to the USA as N856FT with Polaris, and was then leased to Polar Air Cargo. In 2001, after return to Polaris, the aircraft was retired to Marana Air Park in Arizona for breaking up. Taken with a Soviet made Zenith E camera and 300mm lens. From an original slide, scanned and unrestored.
