In September 2012, the Toledo station of Line 1 of the Naples metro was opened near the Spanish Quarters. The area has thus begun to experience a rehabilitation from a tourist point of view. Thanks to the particular urban conformation, the new shops and restaurants, the small fish and fruit and vegetable markets that are located inside, the opening of the new metro station and, in general, the folklore that the area preserves, the Spanish Quarters are often a sought-after spot for taking photos by curious onlookers and tourists from all over the world who go to visit the mural painted on the facade of a building and which represents Maradona: in 2024 the most visited tourist site in Italy considered a temple frequented for good luck by Neapolitan fans and where it is possible to buy gadgets and souvenirs of the "pibe de oro". Furthermore, the area has begun to welcome a significant number of tourists in recent years due to the large number of B&Bs that have opened.
