. Kingsway House is a 1960s nine-storey social housing tower in Latchford, Warrington. Torus reopened the block in March 2024 after a £6.4 million refurbishment by HMS. The project transformed 51 existing flats and created two additional homes, producing 53 social-rent apartments. Works included new kitchens and bathrooms, balconies, lifts, roof and communal improvements, external wall insulation, new windows and enhanced fire-safety measures. Energy-efficiency works were supported by the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund, and the scheme includes a communal hybrid air-source heat-pump system Visible branding and environmental detail make the subject easy to place within its real-world setting The view also records how a familiar post-war tower can be altered without demolition. External insulation, new windows, balconies and upgraded communal systems change both appearance and performance, providing a useful before-and-after reference for regeneration, social rent investment and the reuse of existing housing stock rather than wholesale redevelopment Its documentary strength lies in specificity: a real place or object, recognisable wording and a subject that connects directly to broader editorial themes Beyond the individual block, the scene sits within the continuing challenge of improving older social housing while residents and landlords face energy costs, building-safety expectations and carbon-reduction targets. Retrofit projects of this kind combine fabric improvements with new heating technology and are therefore relevant to housing policy, asset management, fuel poverty and the practical delivery of net zero The original file wording also identifies searchable details including Kingsway House ex-GGHT Torus social housing refurbishment 1960s, which have been retained as metadata evidence where they accurately describe what is visible The dated streetscape detail also helps future researchers compare how the subject and its surroundings changed.
