You are looking down the timeline of PV history ... These are 20 year old Schott RWE 5w / 12v Amorphous silicon [ASi] panels; the technology appearing in the 1970s. These panels differ in structure from modern wafer-based solar panels, being non-crystalline and 'misted' onto a thin film substrate [polymer foil, glass, even metal]. Regarded as state of the art at the time they were low cost to produce but not very efficient - so they often ended up in desktop calculator types of application and other low power items such as greenhouse ventilation, irrigation systems, powering street lights etc. To improve performance additional chemicals could be added to the magic 'mist'. However, the PV amorphous layers often suffered from light-induced degradation which showed with age. The misting technology, on the other hand, meant that a PV surface could be sprayed on large surface areas and also curved substrates. Since ASi technology appeared PV science such as CIGS (copper indium gallium selenide), CDTE (cadmium telluride), and bi-facial panels, has made old ASi irrelevant.
