Chinese woman Ni Qiong, center, cries with her daughters in front of a police car on a road in Fuzhou city, southeast China's Fujian province, 14 December 2014. A woman was recently seen trying to sell her baby daughter on the street to raise money for the treatment fees for her seriously injured husband in Fuzhou, capital of southeast China's Fujian province. The 34-year-old woman, Ni Qiong who came from Chongqing, stood on her knees near a hospital bus stop for four hours, holding a post that read: "Begging to sell child: The supervisor disappeared after my husband's work injury. We have no money for the treatment. Looking to sell my child in order to save her father." Many pedestrians gave her money and even some food, but Ni continued crying on the street with her less-than-one-year-old baby daughter carried on her back and her two other daughters (8 and 11 respectively) standing nearby. Ni's husband, Zhou Xinggui who is now 35 years old, fell from the third floor of a building as he was working on December 11, 2014. His supervisor gave him 7, 000 yuan (US$1, 127) and then disappeared. Zhou and his wife cannot afford the necessary surgery. When asked whether she could live with selling her own child, Ni became silent. Her two other daughters replied: "No. Please don't sell our sister." One of the girls told a reporter that when her little sister was born, their father considered selling her, but her mother insisted on keeping the baby. Now, for her husband, Ni has decided to go out on the streets and do it herself. According to the latest reports, Ni has received more than 580, 000 yuan from donations from the public and the house owner promised to pay 39, 000 yuan for the surgery fee. Ni also decided to donate part of the money to the needy after her husband recovers.
