Fold-out plan of the Millennium Experience exhibition of 2000. This was housed in the Millennium Dome and ran from 1 January to 31 December of 2000 to celebrate the life of Britain at the start of the 3rd millennium. The Dome itself, located on the Greenwich Peninsula in east London, was designed by Richard Rogers with 12 yellow tower masts holding a glass fibre fabric roof. Inside were various exhibits and attractions including: Body, Mind, Faith, Self portrait, Work, Play and Money. Although initiated by the Conservative government the exhibition remains linked with the New Labour era of Tony Blair. Much hype surrounded this controversial attraction but it many deemed it a flop and it had poor visitor numbers. The Dome shell now houses the O2 arena. The Millennium Experience was meant to replicate the 1951 Festival of Britain South Bank exhibition. To compare and contrast see BC1XCK for the cover and BC1592 for a plan of the 1951 event. See BTF87D for the cover of this fold-out plan - a year 2000 item for editorial use only.
