Hartland Quay on the North West Coast of Devon used to be a bustling port until the later part of the 19th century when it was destroyed by a storm, with only the customs house and warehouse surviving. Since them a small jetty has been built for the fisherman. The coast around Hartland Quay and Hartland Point is an area of outstanding natural beauty, famed for its smuggling, and shipwrecks, the last in 1983 the Johanna was claimed by the rocks near the lighthouse. Hartland Quay has a museum dedicated to the shipwrecks in the area, with notable content from the Johanna.
