The Monument to the Unknown Artist is a wonderful example of art and technology combined. Located behind the Tate Modern museum on Bankside’s Sumner Street, the fascinating statue is an example of fine art, as well as the latest animatronic technology. Exquisitely detailed, the impressive sculpture of a man holding a paintbrush stands at three metres tall and is perched on a three metre granite plinth. The bronze-coloured gentleman wears a loose-fitting suit, including shoes and a neck scarf. Although at a first glance, the statue may not appear out of the ordinary, the reality is very different as the Monument to the Unknown Artist actually moves. Set to a default position, the man can often be seen with his right arm out to the side paintbrush in hand. However, the figure changes position every few minutes catching passers by unawares.
