The London Marathon, London, UK - 13 April 2014. First run on 29 March 1981, this 34th Marathon saw the separate groups of starters: Elite Women, Elite Men, Wheelchair (Men and Women), IPC, followed by the Mass Race, racing by the iconic London landmards such as the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, Big Ben and Buckingham Palace, finishing in The Mall. Britain's Olympian Mo Farah was a strong contender finishing 8th. Wilson Kipsang won the Men's race. The London Marathon is also a large celebratory sporting festival with fun runners being sponsored. The event has raised over £450 million for charity since 1981 and holds the Guinness world record as the largest annual fund raising event in the world. Stanley Kipleting Biwott (born 21 April 1986) is a Kenyan long-distance runner who competes in half marathon and marathon races. He won the 2012 Paris Marathon in a course record time of 2:05:11 hours. His half marathon best is 58:56 minutes. He began working with Italian coach Claudio Berardelli in 2006 and came seventh at that year's Carpi Marathon.He was employed as the pacemaker at the Roma-Ostia Half Marathon the following February and he finished third with a time of 1:01:20 hours behind his training partners Benson Barus and Jonathan Kosgei Kipkorir. At the start of 2011 he improved his half marathon best to 1:00:23 hours in winning the Azkoitia-Azpeitia Half Marathon. Finished 2nd in London 2014. Wilson Kipsang Kiprotich (born 15 March 1982) is a Kenyan athlete who specialises in long-distance running, competing in events ranging from 10 km to the marathon. He was the bronze medallist in the marathon at the 2012 Summer Olympics.He was former world record holder in the marathon with a time of 2:03:23, which he set at the 2013 Berlin Marathon. He has run under 2 hours 5 minutes for the marathon on five separate occasions. Kipsang is a two-time winner of the Frankfurt Marathon (2010 and 2011) and has also won the London and Berlin Marathons. 1st in London 2014
