A single mayfly, order Ephemeroptera, found on the banks of the Dorset Stour River UK GB on May 13 2018. There are around 47 different species in the UK and many can be hard to identify. Once they emerge from water they are very short lived, sometimes flying for only a few hours before dying. Fishing for trout during the mayfly hatch is very popular as the trout feast on them. The trout are deemed easy to catch by anyone so the period is often referred to as Duffer’s Fortnight. Dorset England UK GB studio picture on a white background
